Allied forces - new zealand defence support unit (south east asia)

At its peak, the New Zealand Defence presence here in Singapore numbered some 1500 Army personnel. In 1989, New Zealand withdrew this force and now maintains a Defence Support Unit comprising three military and four civilian staff. The New Zealand Defence Support Unit (South East Asia) is responsible for supporting NZ Army, Navy and Air Force units serving in and visiting Singapore and Malaysia. CO NZDSU (SEA) is also:
- the primary ‘lease’ holder of all of the NZDF’s, RAN’s and UK MoD’s infrastructure at PSA Sembawang Terminal;
- the primary ‘lease’ holder for all of the concessionaires (e.g. Din’s Diner, Wakie Wakie etc) in Building 7-4; and
- responsible, in part, for port security and force protection within the Naval Wharves and the surrounding military residential area.
To enable CO NZDSU (SEA) to fulfill his security and force protection role, he manages an Installation Auxiliary Police Force (IAPF) comprising some 40 personnel. CO NZDSU (SEA) typically supports a handful of ship visits to Singapore and Malaysia each year, plus a small number of other visits by RNZAF and NZ Army units.
