Allied forces - royal navy liaison office & royal navy supply & transport office
Up until 1971, the UK maintained a large naval base in Singapore. The base stretched from the present day Sembawang Naval Wharves in the east to the Woodlands – Johor Bahru causeway in the west. HMS TERROR was located within the base. There was a gap of some six years between the closure of the British Naval Base in 1971 and the return of the RN in 1977, when the Royal Navy Liaison Office – Singapore was formed. The Royal Navy Liaison Officer – Singapore is the Harbour Master of Sembawang Naval Wharves (SNW), the CO of Naval Party 1022 and the Assistant Defence Adviser at the British High Commission, Singapore.
Collocated with the RN Liaison Office - Singapore is the RN Supply and Transport Office (RNSTO). The functions performed by this office are similar to those performed by RANLO SINGAPORE. The RN Supply and Transport Officer – Singapore is dual-hatted as the OIC of the local UK Ministry of Defence, Defence Fuels Group Office (DFG – Singapore). RNLO and RNSTO support one to two RN ship visits a year. The combined strength of the RNLO and RNSTO/OIC DFG (Singapore) offices is nine military and civilian personnel, as follows:
