Allied forces - commander logistics group western pacific us navy region - singapore

Compared with its allies (Australia, NZ, UK), the US Department of Defense is a relative newcomer to Singapore, having moved large numbers of its forces here (currently numbering some 150 US service personnel and their families) in the early 1990s, following its withdrawal from the Philippines. It now has the largest footprint of the four allied forces based in Singapore. SNW is the home of three US Navy Commands providing logistic support to the US Navy’s Pacific Fleet – Commander Logistics Group Western Pacific (COMLOG WESTPAC), the US Navy Regional Centre – Singapore (NRCS) and the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Detachment - Singapore. COMLOG WESTPAC is responsible for all aspects of logistics support planning for the US Navy’s Seventh Fleet (whose AO stretches from Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean to just east of the Arabian Gulf in the Indian Ocean). NRCS is responsible for supporting the US Navy’s shore installation requirements in Singapore (e.g. managing local MWR facilities, US housing, contractors etc) and the local FISC detachment is responsible for providing shore support (e.g. stores support) to visiting USN units. Singapore is also the home of:
- the USN’s Far East Military Sealift Command;
- a Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Field Office1; and
- a number of smaller USAF, US Army, USMC and USCG units.
