Singaporeans enjoy playing golf, with approximately 8% of the island being covered by golf courses (a lot for a small nation). While golf in Singapore is very expensive compared with Australia and access to most courses is by invitation only, RANLO SINGAPORE is fortunate to be able to hold four corporate membership cards with the Sembawang Country Club (SCC). As this course caters almost exclusively to currently serving and retired members of the SAF, its membership and green fees are comparatively low by Singapore standards. The RAN membership package allows ADF/ADO personnel to use the club’s restaurant, pool (33 metres), driving range and 18-hole golf course (weekday play only). The current cost for golf is $25.50 SGD per person per 18 hole round (includes green fees and buggy) – payment by credit card or cash. As demand for this facility is high, bookings need to be made well in advance. Personnel wishing to play golf should liaise with A/RANLO (Logistics), advising preferred date and time of play. A/RANLO (Logistics) will book the course on your behalf. While the maximum number of people that can play at a time is four, RANLO SINGAPORE may be able to borrow additional membership cards from NZDSU (SEA) and RNLO (two each). Early morning tee off is recommended (course opens at 0700), as afternoon electrical storms are quite common throughout the year. If lightning or thunder is present, the course manager will close the course. A siren sounds when the course closes and an announcement is made when the course is re-opened. The golf course operates a strict dress code, with the minimum requirement being shorts with a belt, collared short sleeve shirt (tucked into the shorts) and golf shoes with socks (ankle length acceptable). Metal spiked golf shoes are not allowed. The SCC Pro Shop sells a wide variety of golf accessories. Golf accessories can also be purchased at the NEX. The club requires at least 24 hours notice to cancel bookings. Bookings cancelled less than 24 hours before scheduled play may result in each member of the group having to forfeit their booking fee ($25.50 SGD). RANLO SINGAPORE has four sets of right-handed golf clubs (four golf bags) which may be borrowed on request.
